The Trust has a purpose to ensure a sustainable future for its beneficiaries. The Trust has in place strategies for its ongoing future post-mining.
The Trust exists for members of the Ely Agreement Aboriginal community, which includes Tradional Owner groups and the communities of Mapoon, Napranum and New Mapoon in North Queensland. The Traditional Owner groups are listed below.
The Ely Trust is guided by the principle that benefits derived from Country should be managed responsibly, transparently, and in ways that create lasting outcomes for people, families and communities.
The Ely Trust is made up of Ely Bauxite Mine Beneficiaries Corporation Pty Ltd, Ely Bauxite Mine Aboriginal Beneficiaries Trust and Ely Community Projects Charitable Trust.

The Ely Bauxite Mine Aboriginal Beneficiaries Trust was established to manage and protect the benefits arising from bauxite mining on traditional lands in western Cape York Peninsula, Queensland. The Trust exists to support the long-term wellbeing, self-determination, and sustainable futures of its Aboriginal beneficiaries.
Who we are
The trust primarily benefits members of the Ely Agreement Aboriginal community, which includes Traditional Owner groups and communities being Mapoon, Napranum and New Mapoon in Queensland.
Traditional Owner groups are:
– Taepithiggi
– Thanakwith
– Yupungathi
– Tjungundji
– Warrangku
– Dulhunty
The Ely Trust is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by shareholders.
